ARE YOU BOTHERED ABOUT CRITICISM?

Image
Most of us take criticism far too seriously. “We need to realize that people are not thinking about us or caring what is said about us. They are thinking about themselves. They would be a thousand times more concerned about a slight headache of their own than they would about the news of your death.” Remember that no one ever kicks a dead dog, and the more important a dog is, the more satisfaction people get in kicking him. Sometimes when you are being kicked, it means you are achieving something and are worthy of attention. Even if you are being kicked by one of your most intimate friends, do not indulge in self pity. Instead, remember that that’s precisely what happened to Jesus. One of His twelve most intimate friends turned traitor for a bribe that would amount to about nineteen dollars. Another one of his twelve most intimate friends openly deserted Jesus the moment He got into trouble and declared three times that he didn’t even know Jesus. Never be bothered by what p...

IS RELIGION THE CURE FOR WORRY?

Image
The fact that you don’t understand the mysteries of prayer and religion, shouldn’t keep you from enjoying the richer, happier life they bring. Man is not made to understand life, but to live it. Religion brings a new zest for more life, a larger, richer, more satisfying life. It banishes tensions, anxieties, fears, worries; and offers faith, hope, peace, courage and purpose.   “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Are you not much more valuable than they? Matthew 6:25-26 Psychiatrists realize that prayer and a strong religious faith will banish the worries, the anxieties, the strains and fears that cause more than half of all our ills. Dr A.A Brill said, “Anyone who is truly religious does not develop a neurosis....

HAVE YOU TRIED FORGETTING YOUR UNHAPPINESS BY CREATING HAPPINESS FOR OTHERS?

Image
If you can get interested in others and see how much you can do for them, you will be happy and have few worries. Instead of being self-centered and complaining that the world would not devote itself to making you happy, live with a purpose to bring joy to others. Try to think every day how you can please someone. Do a good deed every day. A good deed is something that brings a smile of joy to the face of another. Carl Jung said: “About one third of my patients are suffering from no clinically definable neurosis, but from the senselessness and emptiness of their lives.” To put it another way, they are trying to thumb a ride through life- and the parade passes them by. So they rush to a psychiatrist with their petty, senseless, useless lives. Having missed the boat, they stand on the wharf, blaming everyone except themselves and demanding that the world cater to their self-centered desires. Happiness is contagious. By giving, we receive. By helping someone and giving out love, w...
