WHY YOU ARE NOT WHO YOU WANT TO BE

You have a dream, you have a passion, you have done a lot of things in your mind, but you have not been able to manifest them in reality. There could be a lot of reasons for that, but I want to talk about these:

1.   Being too self conscious: You will always limit yourself if you are too conscious of making mistakes. Ask anyone who succeeded at one thing or the other, they made lots of mistakes before they finally got it right. If you want to become a writer, you just have to write without being so careful about grammatical errors or people’s criticism.

“...don't be self-conscious - other people are completely unaware of you and more concerned with how they appear ...”
John Geddes

2.   Feeling you are not enough: I have seen people who are great at what they do but they don’t think they are. I have seen people who can be great at something not even attempting to do it because they feel they can’t. The feeling of not enough will make you feel bad even when you should be feeling good and bad feelings will always repel the good you want. You are showing enough love to your family, you are working hard enough at your job, you are praying enough; don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. -Psalm 139:13-16

3.   Lack of Courage: The courageous will always rule the fearful. I don’t know anything you want to be that doesn’t require guts. Thanks be to God who gives us the spirit of bravery. It takes courage to start a business, teach, act or sing. You need courage to sell your ideas to people. You need courage to express yourself. Until you start expressing yourself, you cannot be all that you are meant to be.

4.   Lack of persistence: Rome was not built in a day. If you want to cut down a tree, you don’t cut here and there; you keep cutting from one side until the tree falls. When you try something and it doesn’t work the way you imagine, if you are really passionate about that stuff, you have to keep trying until you breakthrough. Sometimes we give up at the point of breakthrough.

5.   Underestimating yourself: You are capable of much more than you know. Stop feeling inferior around other people. Anything you want to start feeling inferior about is also in you. You have great potentials and there are a lot of things you can do that others can’t do. Why not focus on your greatness and stop looking at the things you can’t do? Why not stop downplaying yourself? Accept compliments when they are given to you without saying something to bring yourself down. Celebrate when you achieve something remarkable and don’t call it common.

6.   Indecision: indecision is a curse. Instability will not let you grow. You can change the way you do things, but you must not change the things you do. Most habits of indecision started from childhood. You will choose color red and immediately regret why you didn’t chose yellow. The problem with this habit is that it will never allow you to enjoy what you have.

Jesus replied, "No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God." Luke 9:62

7.   Dreaming only and not doing:  no one became great by dreaming alone. You can’t stay in your seating room, watching movies all day, dreaming of becoming a great actress and amount to anything. If you want to be a great actress you have to go out, go to an acting school, go for auditions and mingle with people who can make your dreams come true. Whatever it is you want to be, you have dreamed enough. Get up and do something.

8.   Looking for an easy-way-out: there is no short cut to success. There is no easier way to climb a mountain. Every day is a journey; how far you are able to go each day will determine when you will get to your destination. You do not know how close you are to your dreams, but getting close is dependent on your every day journey.
