WHY YOU SHOULDN’T WORK FOR MONEY

Your work is what you do with your life. You wake up every day, get ready for work, spend some time of your life in traffic, then you arrive at your place of work and spend hours before heading home. On your way home, all your thoughts are centered on the things you will do when you get home to make the next day’s preparation for work easier for you. We all have reasons why we do the jobs we do. Some will say it’s the only job they could get, while some will say it is a good job; others will say it’s what they love doing, while the rest will say it’s the only thing they can do.

Let’s look at those that said it’s the only job they could get. Probably you have tried so hard to get a job before you finally landed this one and you won’t listen to anyone telling you there maybe better jobs out there. You shouldn’t listen to anyone but do you know you only applied to jobs you had interest in? You didn’t apply to every available job. You applied to jobs you believed you could do.

For the ones that said it’s a good job; I will say congratulations. It is not easy to get a good job at times like this. Nobody will listen to you if you say you don’t like your job. What is there not to like?

For those who said it’s the only thing they can do, I will like to believe it’s because that’s their area of specialization. You cannot ask a doctor to go and find a job he/she loves. What else will you love after almost 7 years of studying medicine?

The people we are happy for today are those that said it’s what they love doing. We say a big congratulations to you because happy and blessed are those who get to do what they love doing.  Do you know why they are so lucky? I guess it’s because they are living life on their own terms. When your work is what you love doing, you do not consider yourself working, because you will still do what you do even if money is not involve.

Let’s make a list of the reasons you shouldn’t work for money:

1. Imagine you wake up one day and all your money is gone. Will you look at all the time of your life you used to make that money and consider it wasted?

2.   2. The money is never enough. Since you started working for money, have you been able to meet all your needs? Do you feel satisfied when you receive your pay check at the end of the month

3.   3. Hard earned money is hard to spend. When you consider how much you have labored and the time of your life that went in before you got that money, you may not be willing to spend on luxury or give your money to help anyone.

4.   4. You won’t do anything extra. If you are just working for the money, you will not commit yourself completely to the job; neither will you do anything outside the job description on the role you signed up for.

5.   5. You may not get a promotion. Commitment to the job leads to more knowledge and a better performance, which will be difficult for someone who is only interested in the money. You may end up complaining, bored and having a poor relationship with your colleagues. Nobody rises to the top that way.

The truth remains that we need money and a job that offers financial security is a good job. It is very easy to lose your passion when you are doing what you love but you still have money problems. You can definitely find a way to make your boring job interesting. See how to overcome boredom at work
