WHAT IS YOUR CONFIDENCE?

 

We all have areas where we are confident. There are people who are overly confident in themselves and there are people who lack confidence in every possible way. In life, one needs confidence to be successful. It takes confidence to live your dreams, meet targets, stand your ground, speak out and do exploits. People’s confidences do fail them though and that is when it becomes as if life is no longer beautiful. King David had reasons to put his confidence in the following:

·        His Beauty: 1 Samuel 6:12; “So Jesse sent for him. He was dark and handsome, with beautiful eyes. And the LORD said, “This is the one; anoint him.” A lot of people who pride in their beauty are not even as beautiful as David. He was more beautiful than handsome, but we didn’t see that he developed confidence in his beauty at any point in life. The problem with putting your confidence in your beauty is that ‘beauty fades.’ One day you will age or meet a situation where people’s faces are not considered.

·        His Wisdom: It takes a wise man to birth a wise son. David was the father of the wisest man who ever lived; in fact he taught Solomon the importance of wisdom.

Despite David’s wisdom, he doesn’t make any decision without first inquiring from God. He never trusted his intellects. I know someone who trusted so much in her ability to pass every exam, that she became depressed and lost hope in the future the moment she failed one test; that is the danger in having confidence in your intellects.

·        His Wealth: David was so rich He gave offerings of three thousand talents of gold of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of fined silver to overlay the walls of the houses; 1 Chronicle 29:4. In today’s world, money is what gives confidence. People who are not wealthy do not have a say and shy away even when they are called to speak. But in this same world, we have seen the rich cry as well and we have seen how unreliable wealth can also be.

·        His Strength/Skills: David was a skilled slayer. But when he was to fight Goliath, he didn’t start boasting about his ability to kill the lion and the bear; rather he came with the name of the Lord. David replied to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 1 Samuel 17:45. If you think you are so skilled and irreplaceable, wait until you see someone who is more skilled than you are; you will completely lose your confidence.

 

So where do we put our confidence if everything else can fail? IT IS BETTER TO TRUST IN THE LORD THAN TO PUT CONFIDENCE IN MAN, Psalm 118:8.

“This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.” 1 John 5:14.

PUT YOUR CONFIDENCE IN THE LORD BECAUSE HE DOES NOT FAIL.

Not a single one of all the good promises the LORD had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true. Joshua 21:45

WHY YOU HAVEN’T RECEIVED WHAT YOU ARE ASKING FOR

  1.    YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU WANT:   We always pray for one thing or the other, but the truth is that sometimes we do not know what we really want. When Bartimaeus was calling on Jesus to have mercy on him, Jesus asked him, "What do you want me to do for you?" Every one could see the man was blind but he still had to say what he wanted, " Rabbi, I want to see ." It is a natural law, that you will want something for you to get it. 2.    YOU ARE NOT SPECIFIC AND CONSISTENT:   You have to be specific about what you want. If you want something from someone, you don’t just fret, cry or assume they know what you want. You tell them the exact thing you want. And naturally, consistency can’t be achieved in the absence of clarity. So you have to be clear and specific about what you want, and then apply constant pressure (consistency).   Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6. As you were growing up, you were learning consciously and unconsciously. The things you saw, heard and felt gave you a thinking pattern which eventually formed your attitude. Over time, this repetition of thoughts, feelings and actions fashioned your believe and perspective. As you get older, you started realizing that you react in a certain way to certain issues. People around you are already aware of how you will respond to a question, what triggers you, what excites you and what suppresses you. Then you probably started associating with other people from different environments and you felt there may be better ways to respond to issues. You can overtake chariots

  Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.” So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?” Acts 8:29-30 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.  Isaiah 11:2     You have the spirit of God in you. That same spirit that enabled Philip to run up to a chariot is in you. He makes you wiser than your teachers, strengthens you in your areas of weakness and reveals hidden things to you. What changes do you need to make in your life armed with this knowledge?   1. Stop being afraid:  Fear is one thing stopping a lot of people from living to be all that they can be. When you need to make a decision and fear creeps in, always remember you have that same spirit that made Philip out run a chariot. The Spirit of God makes you unstoppable. What is your drive?

What motivates you in life? What keeps you going in your career, business or ministry? Why do you do the things you do? Your life purpose should be your drive. Purpose is the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists. Most people make money their drive but they realize after making the money that they still feel empty and unfulfilled. If you feel unfulfilled and unnecessarily stressed in life, it could be because you are being driven by the wrong things or because you are focusing on too many things. The Mistake of Inconsistency

  Whatever we dream to become great at, we need to give it time, focus on it and keep repeating it. In life, I have seen people make the mistake of being here and there, trying different stuff and never settling with one. You need to give at least one hour everyday for 5 years to anything you wish to be great at. I know a woman who has tried to be great at something, she has been at it for five years now, but she has nothing to show for her endeavors. Her endeavors would have started yielding on the fifth year if she had been consistently focused on one thing. She has a good reason for whatever thing she left behind to pursue another, but sometimes good reasons are not enough.
