LACK OF APPLIED KNOWLEDGE

WHY YOU ARE EDUCATED BUT HAVE NOTHING DOING

It is no longer news that a lot of graduates are jobless. Sometimes we blame our education system (see YouTube video THE FAULT IN OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM) but, sometimes it is our fault. A lot of people have the knowledge but they do not know how to apply it. Knowledge is not power. It is applied knowledge that is power.

When you start studying a course, the question you will ask yourself is ‘what can I do with the knowledge I am getting?’ For professional courses like medicine and law, it is clear how they will apply the knowledge they are getting, but for someone in a course like Anatomy and Physiology, you need to plan how to apply the knowledge you are gathering.

I studied Biological Science in the university (take note so you can pardon my English). We did a little of all the life sciences and we were left to choose what to do with all we learned. A lot of people couldn’t do anything with it but some people did. The people who did great chose an aspect and learned until they became specialists in that area. One person learned about fishery and today he is a master in it as if that was what he learned in school. Another learned about drugs and today she has specialized knowledge about the products she markets as if she studied pharmacy in school. One of my classmates is a skincare specialist, she studied until she became a consultant and she is good like that’s all she learned in school. I know of another person who creates awareness about cancer as if he learned it in school. I know of another who works in a medical laboratory, he conducts medical test like he learned how to be a laboratory technician in school. Some went back to nursing school to become certified nurses while so many others became school teachers.

The point is, it is the choice they made concerning the area they want to apply their knowledge that made them gather more knowledge in that chosen area. These days, people make the mistake of gathering knowledge without first discovering how they want to apply it. That is why there are a lot of educated people with nothing doing. When you apply for a job and you are called for an interview, they do not ask you what you were taught in school. They ask you what they need you to know for the job.

If you want to get a sales job, you should know how to deal with people and how to communicate effectively (If you have a sales job already, you need those two to boost your sales confidence). You may be a graduate of Marketing without the required knowledge; when you go for an interview with someone who is a graduate of Mathematics with the required knowledge, he/she will definitely get the job. That is why you need to decide in advance what you want and then gather the knowledge that you need to apply afterwards.

What do you want to do with the knowledge you acquire in 2021? Please drop a comment.
